Surrey, B.C. – The Chief Civilian Director (CCD) of the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded an investigation into a motor vehicle incident in Vancouver.
On May 6, 2021 at approximately 12:40 a.m., an off-duty member of the RCMP was driving eastbound on Grandview Highway at Rupert Street when it was involved in a collision with a bicycle. Video evidence clearly demonstrates that the officer was proceeding through the intersection on a green light when the collision occurs.
The CCD has reviewed the evidence and determined that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed an offence. As a result, the IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
