Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded investigation 2022-231 into a police-involved shooting injury in Topley Landing near Houston.
At about 3:40 a.m. on August 30, 2022, police responded to a report of two people allegedly breaking into an area lodge. One man sustained a non-life-threatening injury during the incident.
The IIO’s initial investigative steps sought to confirm the level of injury the man sustained. The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the medical evidence and determined that the injury does not meet the Police Act definition of serious harm.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
