Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is concluding an investigation into an incident in Prince George.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on May 19, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man who was alleged to have been pursuing another person with a weapon in downtown Prince George near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Dominion Street. After being taken into custody, the man was found to have injuries and was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services for assessment.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence and determined that the injuries suffered by the affected person were from a previous incident and were not caused by police actions.
As a result, the IIO investigation into this matter has been concluded.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
