Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded investigation 2022-329 into an incident in Surrey that resulted in the death of one man.
At about 2:20 p.m. on December 10, 2022, police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation. The stop was conducted near the intersection of 100 Avenue and 152 Street, and a single gunshot was fired. The driver and sole occupant did not survive.
Forensic scene analysis and medical records confirm that the death was self-inflicted. No police firearm was discharged during the incident.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence – including medical information, forensic scene analysis, and police records – and determined that police are not responsible for the man’s death.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
