Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Victoria on January 12, 2025 and resulted in injuries to two people (IIO 2025-014).
Shortly after 2:00 a.m., Victoria Police Department officers saw a grey sedan driving on the wrong side of the road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The sedan did not stop and was then involved in a single-vehicle collision shortly after on the west side of the Johnson Street Bridge near the Vic West Skatepark on Esquimalt Road.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and commenced an investigation.
The chief civilian director has now reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including medical records, video footage and witness accounts – and has determined that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer may have committed an offence.
The IIO investigation is now concluded, and a public report will be published following conclusion of a related court process.
Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
