Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has concluded its investigation into a collision that resulted in the death of a man in Vancouver on the afternoon of September 11, 2026 (IIO 2026-223).

Shortly after 3 p.m., Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers attempted to speak to a man in the driver’s seat of a vehicle on the 1000-block of Canada Place downtown, who was believed to be involved in a police investigation.

The man drove away from the scene and was involved in a collision a short distance away. Paramedics and fire personnel arrived, and the man was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly afterwards and commenced an investigation.

The chief civilian director has reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including video footage, police reports, radio transmissions and medical documentation – and has determined that there is no connection between police actions or inaction and the man’s death.

The IIO investigation is now concluded.

Background
