Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of BC confirms that investigators have been deployed to a fatal incident in Prince George.
According to police, on March 5, 2016 at approximately 10:08 p.m., Prince George RCMP responded to a complaint of a disturbance. Police report that they located the subject of the complaint and were made aware of a possible female victim. The female was subsequently found in medical distress in the same area and was transported to hospital and did not survive.
The IIO was notified and has deployed investigators to Prince George. The initial focus of the IIO investigation will be to determine if there is a connection between the death of the female and actions or inactions of officers.
The IIO will not be providing any information about the deceased; this remains the responsibility of the BC Coroners Service. The RCMP is responsible for any concurrent investigation.
