Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has deployed investigators to a fatal officer-involved shooting involving the Vancouver Police Department.

Police report that at 3 p.m. today officers responded to a call of an alleged robbery in progress at Canadian Tire near Rupert Street and Grandview Highway in Vancouver. Officers arrived and confronted the male who was identified as the subject of the call. According to police, as they attempted to arrest the male, he stabbed an officer and the male was shot by police. The male died at the scene.

IIO Investigators will be conducting investigative tasks including obtaining physical evidence from the scene, interviewing civilian witnesses and designating and interviewing officers.

The IIO will not be providing any information about the deceased; this remains the responsibility of the B.C. Coroners Service.
