Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of BC confirms that investigators have been deployed to an in-custody death in White Rock.
According to RCMP, a woman was arrested on March 25, 2016 and subsequently remanded in custody. At 10:38 a.m. on March 29, 2016 she was found lying on the floor and unresponsive. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
The IIO has deployed investigators to the scene. The initial focus of the IIO investigation will be to determine if there is a connection between the death of the woman and actions or inactions of the officers.
The IIO will not be providing any information about the deceased; this remains the responsibility of the B.C. Coroners Service.
No further information or updates will be provided at this time.
