IIO Deployed to Incident in Burnaby

SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office of BC confirms it has sent investigators to Burnaby after being notified of an incident involving the RCMP.

On March 29, 2015, at approximately 5:50 a.m., according to Burnaby RCMP, officers responded to a report of a double stabbing in the 6100 block of 14th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers came into contact with an adult male. During that contact, the male affected person was shot by officers. The affected person was taken into custody and transported to hospital. No officers were injured.

IIO investigators have been deployed to the scene and will focus their investigation on this part of the incident.

The RCMP and IHIT will remain  responsible for investigating any other aspects of what may have occurred prior to the affected person being shot by officers.

Due to the preliminary stages of the investigation and the significant concurrent investigation, no other information will be provided at this time.
