Surrey, BC – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has deployed investigators to Prince George following an on-foot police chase and arrest.

Prince George RCMP reported that on September 12, 2019 at approximately 11:40 a.m., officers attempted to arrest a male cyclist after witnessing what they believed to be a drug transaction.

RCMP report that the cyclist fled by bike to the CN railyard. During the officers’ attempt to stop him, the male cyclist suffered what was reported to be a serious but non-life-threatening head injury and was taken to hospital.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
