Surrey. B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been notified of a police-involved incident in Surrey.
On September 14, 2019 at approximately 10:34 p.m., Surrey RCMP received a report of a pedestrian that had been struck at 152 Street and 56 Avenue (Highway 10). Emergency Health Services attended the scene and pronounced the male pedestrian deceased.
The following day the RCMP determined that the male that had been struck had been released from police custody shortly before the incident and therefore notified the IIO.
The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, officers’ actions or inaction may have played into the death of the male.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
