Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. was notified of a police-involved incident that spanned multiple police jurisdictions.
RCMP reported that on February 26, 2020, just before 2:00 pm, officers were attempting to arrest a male on outstanding warrants. The male fled in his vehicle and led the police from Abbotsford into West Vancouver near the Capilano River bridge where he was arrested.
During that arrest the male was injured as a result of receiving a police dog bite that required surgery to repair.
The IIO was notified and have commenced an investigation to determining what role, if any, the officers’ actions may have played into the serious harm of the male.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
