Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. has deployed investigators to a police-involved incident in Port Hardy.
RCMP reported that on Friday 22, March, at approximately 3:58p.m., two officers responded to a domestic disturbance complaint at a residence in Port Hardy. Officers attempted to arrest a male and a struggle ensued.
The arrest took place and the male was then transported to cells and complained of pain. He was subsequently transported to hospital.
Following this RCMP reported that the male had sustained serious injuries.
The IIO has commenced an investigation into the incident to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played in the injuries suffered by the male.
Background:
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
