SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has expanded its investigation into the April 14, 2014 shooting incident involving the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

On April 14, 2014, VPD officers attended a residence near Kingsway and Joyce in Vancouver in response to a 911 call.  The initial complaint related to a child in distress, an adult male in possession of a knife and evidence of blood in the hallway of the residence.  Earlier reports confirmed the male was shot by an officer. The male survived his injury and is the subject of an active homicide investigation by the VPD.

Also previously reported, officers located an adult female who had sustained significant injuries. She did not survive those injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Based on the information obtained thus far, the IIO has now expanded its investigation to include the circumstances related to the deceased female as early indications are that she was struck by an officer’s bullet after her death.

Due to the circumstances related to both the VPD and the IIO investigations, the IIO will make no further comment at this time.
