Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. is investigating a police-involved shooting in Vancouver on Saturday evening that left one man injured.
According to the Vancouver Police, officers responded to a report of a man with a rifle in a residential building near Princess Avenue and Powell Street around 7:00 pm. They set up a containment area, evacuated the building and began negotiations. At approximately 9:00 pm, a member of the Emergency Response Section fired at the suspect when he exited a suite in the building.
The man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
