Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an early-morning incident in Penticton on Tuesday in which one man was injured.
Just after 3:30 am on June 20, 2023, RCMP received a report of motorcycle drivers who appeared to be acting suspiciously around homes and vehicles on Brooks Place. When officers attended, the riders left the scene. RCMP then observed motorcycles of a similar description near Killarney Street and Forestbrook Drive. Again, the riders drove off. Shortly after, police located one of the motorcycles, which had crashed at the intersection of Penticton Avenue and Government Street.
The driver was found unresponsive but breathing. He was transported to a local hospital for observation. While there, his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to a regional hospital for additional care.
The IIO is investigating to confirm the details of the incident and to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the collision and the man’s resulting injuries.
The IIO asks anyone with relevant information about this incident to contact the witness line toll free at 1-855-446-8477or via the contact form at iiobc.ca.
