Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a police-involved incident in Saanich on Friday night in which one man was seriously injured.

Saanich Police report that at approximately 9:00 pm on April 28, 2023, officers stopped a vehicle near the 4100 block of Highway 17 (Patricia Bay Highway) for investigation into the breach of a conditional sentence order. During an interaction with police, the driver was shot. He was transported to hospital, where he underwent surgery; he is currently in stable condition in the ICU.

The IIO has begun an investigation to confirm the details of what occurred during the traffic stop and to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the man’s injuries.
