IIO investigators deployed to Chilliwack

SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) confirms that it is investigating an incident involving the Chilliwack RCMP.

According to the RCMP, at 4:11pm, officers responded to a complaint of a male stabbing a dog. The officers engaged a male individual, attempting to arrest the affected person when a Conducted Energy Weapon was used. Once arrested, medical assistance was requested as the individual was unresponsive. The affected person was transported to hospital however did not survive.

The IIO was immediately notified. The investigative team including a forensic specialist remain on site processing the scene.

As set by the chief civilian director, the IIO’s goals are to conduct fair, unbiased, timely, thorough and competent investigations, and ensure transparency through public reporting.

The BC Coroners Service has jurisdiction over any and all information related to the deceased.

Due to the preliminary stage of the investigation, no additional information is available at the present time.
