Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Abbotsford.
Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department indicates that on April 26, 2021 at approximately 1:30 a.m., an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a grey Hyundai Tucson near the intersection of Highway 11 and McCallum Road. The vehicle reportedly did not stop.
Shortly thereafter, the Hyundai was involved in a single vehicle collision. Emergency Health Services attended and transported the driver, a female, to the hospital with serious injuries. The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the woman’s injury.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
