Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the deaths two people following a motor vehicle incident in Abbotsford.

Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department states that on August 7, 2022, officers attempted to stop a vehicle, a white Acura, alleged to be associated with a serious crime.

It is reported that police used their vehicles to attempt to stop the Acura in the 31900-block of Maclure Road near Clearbrook Road. The Acura went off the road and collided with a tree.

The female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the male driver was transported to the hospital and has since died.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
