Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the injuries of one man following a police-involved shooting in Vancouver.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that in the evening on August 6, 2022, police responded to reports of a man with a weapon who had reportedly injured at least one person in a building in the 900-block of Granville Street.

When the officers arrived, an interaction occurred, and an officer discharged their firearm. The man was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment of gunshot-related injuries.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has deployed investigators to the scene to commence an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
