Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the injuries of two people and the deaths of two others in a collision near the Burnaby and New Westminster border.
Information provided by the Metro Vancouver Transit Police states that at about 11:00 p.m. on July 26, 2022, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a Nissan Altima. It is reported that the vehicle failed to stop and was involved in a collision with a Toyota Yaris at the intersection of 10th Avenue and 6th Street.
The two occupants of the Toyota were seriously injured in the collision and were pronounced deceased at the hospital. The male driver and female passenger of the Nissan were also transported to the hospital with injuries.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and deployed investigators to the scene to commence an investigation.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
