Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Kamloops.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on September 26, 2021, a white Suzuki motorcycle passed an officer driving a marked police van travelling eastbound on Highway 1. A short time later at approximately 6:50 p.m., the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a black Dodge Ram pickup truck at the intersection of Highland Road and Highway 1. The rider of the motorcycle, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police action or inaction may have played in the death.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
