Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Port Moody that resulted in one man sustaining a serious injury.

Information provided by the Port Moody Police Department states that at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25, 2023, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a motorcycle, but the motorcycle reportedly did not stop.

It is reported that a short time later, another officer later observed the motorcycle and allegedly attempted to block it near the intersection of Valour and Glenayre drives. There was a collision between the motorcycle and the police vehicle, and the rider of the motorcycle sustained a serious injury in the collision.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after the collision occurred. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of police actions during the incident.
