Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Vancouver on November 8, that resulted in one person sustaining a serious injury.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that at about 7:40 a.m., police attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle on Burrard Street, but the vehicle reportedly did not stop.

It is reported that a short time later, there was a collision between the vehicle and a pedestrian with one Affected Person suffering a serious injury.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after the collision occurred. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of police actions or inaction leading up to and during the incident.

Background

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
