Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in the Harrison Mills area near Agassiz that resulted in four people sustaining serious injuries.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that at about 12:40 p.m. on September 17, 2022, an officer observed a Toyota Matrix that was believed to be associated to several recent crimes in the Fraser Valley.

It is reported that police took steps to affect a traffic stop, but the Matrix did not stop. The Matrix collided with an uninvolved civilian vehicle, a Honda CRV, in the 3800-block of Lougheed Highway.

The two occupants from the CRV, one man and one woman, as well as one man and one woman from the Matrix, all sustained injuries in the collision. All were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the collision.
