Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Burnaby and resulted in one man sustaining a serious injury.
Information provided by the New Westminster Police Department states that police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Edmonds St and Humphries Ave, around 7:40 p.m. on August 18, 2023.
That car was later involved in collision with another vehicle nearby and two occupants were arrested.
The IIO was notified on August 20 and commenced an investigation with further information revealing the Affected Person (AP) had suffered a serious injury.
Investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of police actions leading up to and during the incident. They will also seek to determine if any injuries meet the threshold of serious harm as defined in the Police Act.
