Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a police-involved shooting incident in Prince George that resulted in the death of one man.
Information provided by the RCMP states that this evening (March 16, 2023), police responded to a call at the intersection of Highway 97 and WIllowcale Road. An interaction occurred between the man and police, and the man was shot. He was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The IIO has commenced an investigation, and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the interaction between the man and police.

Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
