Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating an injury a woman sustained while being taken into custody by officers with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
Information provided by the VPD states that at about 4:10 p.m. on March 7, 2024, police responded to a report of a woman in crisis and in possession of a weapon at a residence in the 2300 block of Quayside Court in Vancouver.
The woman sustained a non-life-threatening injury while being taken into custody. She was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified the same day and has now commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the incident, and whether any police use of force was necessary, proportionate, and reasonable given the totality of the circumstances.
