Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Cobble Hill.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that at approximately 10:55 p.m. on February 11, 2022, an officer conducted a traffic stop of a grey Mazda 3 in the area of Shawnigan Lake and Mile End roads. The driver, a woman, reportedly did not obey police direction and was taken into custody. She was transported to the Duncan RCMP detachment.

On February 16, 2022, the affected person reported to police that she sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury during her arrest. The IIO was notified and commenced an investigation on the same date.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
