Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Surrey.

Information reported by the RCMP states that at approximately 10:40 p.m. on February 13, 2022, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a grey Chevrolet Cavalier near the intersection of 84 Avenue and 149a Street. It was reported that the vehicle did not stop, and police did not follow.

A short time later, the Cavalier was involved in a collision with two uninvolved civilian vehicles at 100 Avenue and 160 Street.

The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries in the collision and was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services. None of the other occupants sustained serious injuries.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and commenced an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
