Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Coquitlam.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on December 27, 2021 at approximately 4:10 a.m., police responded to a request for assistance regarding an allegedly intoxicated man at a construction site in the 600 block of Foster Avenue. Attending officers arrested the man and it is reported that Emergency Health Services attended but the man declined treatment. The man was released shortly thereafter.
On January 3, 2022, the RCMP became aware that the man had suffered an injury during his arrest and notified the IIO.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
