Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Esquimalt.
Information provided by the Victoria Police Department indicates that on August 9, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a request for assistance at a residence in the 800-block of Kindersley Road. When officers arrived, they were advised that there was a man present who was refusing to leave despite requests he do so.
Officers report that they spoke to the man to request he depart but the man refused. Officers then advised the man that he was under arrest and a struggle ensued. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries during his arrest and was transported to a local area hospital.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
