Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Kamloops.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on October 14, 2020 at approximately 4:35 p.m., police received a call for assistance at a residential building* in the 1800-block of Greenfield Avenue. Upon arrival at the suite in question, an elderly woman answered the door while reportedly in possession of a weapon. An officer tried to take the weapon from her and during the interaction, the woman allegedly suffered injury. Officers then transported the woman to a local area hospital for treatment.
The RCMP were reportedly made aware of the seriousness of the injury on October 22, 2020 and notified the IIO at that time.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
