Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Kamloops in which one man sustained a serious injury.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that shortly after 4:00 p.m. on October 24, 2022, police attended a residence in the 2000-block of Pacific Way in response to a report that a man there was behaving erratically and in possession of a weapon.
At about 8:35 p.m., it is reported that the man sustained a serious injury that appears to have been self-inflicted. He was subsequently taken into custody with less lethal intervention and transported to the hospital for treatment.
The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the man’s injury.

Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
