Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver which resulted in serious injuries to one man.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that in the early morning on October 24, 2022, police responded to report of trespassing in the parking area of a residential building in the 800-block of Southwest Marine Drive.

It is reported that when officers arrived, they located one man who was in possession of a weapon. The man sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury during his arrest.

The IIO has commenced an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
