Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Nanaimo.
Information provided by the RCMP on July 29, 2020 indicates that on September 18, 2019, officers arrested a man alleged to be in a stolen vehicle on Highview Terrace. The man later reported to the IIO that the incident was near Haliburton Street, and he sustained serious but not life-threatening injury during his arrest.
The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, the officer’s actions or inaction may have played in the incident.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
