Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Prince George.

Information provided by the affected person, a man, indicates that on October 6, 2021, he was involved in an altercation with another man which reportedly included display of a firearm.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., the man reported he returned to his vehicle on Langer Crescent to find police present. Following an interaction which included use of a police service dog, the man was arrested. He reported sustaining dog bite injuries while being taken into custody.

Medical treatment was provided at the time of the incident, but the injuries subsequently worsened, and the man returned to hospital for additional treatment several days later.

The affected person reported the incident to the IIO on October 27, 2021, and an investigation has commenced.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
