Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on April 22, 2020 at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a male, the affected person in this case, who was alleged to have a weapon in a hotel room in the 1100 block of Hornby Street in Vancouver. The male was known to hotel staff who advised that he had court order prohibiting him from being at that location.

When police arrived, a police service dog was used to affect the arrest of the male who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The IIO is asking for any person who saw, heard or recorded the incident to contact the IIO Witness Line toll free at 1-855-446-8477.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
