Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
On August 2, 2020 at approximately 5:20 p.m., an altercation between police and two civilians reportedly occurred near the intersection of Main and Hastings streets. Another man, the affected person in this matter, said he attempted to intervene in the incident. He alleges that he suffered serious injury during the interaction.
The IIO is investigating to determine what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the man’s injury.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
