Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on July 22, 2021 at approximately 10:40 p.m., police responded to multiple calls regarding an individual allegedly damaging property. Officers located the person at a business in the 1700-block of Robson Street, and the affected person sustained injuries while being arrested.
The IIO was advised of the incident shortly thereafter and has commenced an investigation into the incident.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
