Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on July 23, 2021 at approximately 4:25 p.m., police responded to reports of a man reportedly causing a disturbance in the 1300-block of Seymour Street. The man sustained injuries during an interaction that occurred while being placed under arrest.
The IIO was advised of the incident on July 23, 2021 and has commenced an investigation into the incident.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
