Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on July 29, 2021 at approximately 2:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a man walking in and out of traffic in the 1400-block of West Broadway. As officers had spoken to the man the previous evening for being in traffic, police offered to transport him to a friend’s home. When the man was about to enter the police vehicle, an interaction reportedly occurred which resulted in the man sustaining serious injuries.
Police transported the man to a local area hospital for treatment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
