Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident that resulted in serious injuries to one man.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that at about 12:35 a.m. on July 2, 2022, police responded to a report of a man swinging an object at passers-by in the 300-block of East Hastings.
It is reported that there was an interaction during the arrest, and the man suffered a serious but not life-threatening injury.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
