Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident near Sicamous.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on April 14, 2020 at approximately 12:00pm, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on a forest service road off Highway 97A near Sicamous. Based on the information provided by the caller, the person in question was believed to be a male known to police to have outstanding warrants for his arrest. In the course of his apprehension, the male suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played into the serious harm of the male.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
