Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting incident in Surrey.
Information reported by the RCMP states that in the morning of April 1, 2022, police received several reports of different incidents involving a man who was reported to be in possession of a weapon. It is not known at this time if the same man was involved in all of the reported incidents.
Officers located a man near the intersection of 142a Street and 87a Avenue who they believed to be the person involved in at least one of the earlier reports to police. It is reported that there was an altercation, and the man sustained a serious gunshot injury.
Emergency Health Services attended, and the man was transported to the hospital for treatment. Despite life-saving measures, he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
