Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision on Okanagan Lake near Summerland.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on August 5, 2021 at approximately 11:20 a.m., an off-duty member of the RCMP operating a recreational personal watercraft, or ‘Sea-Doo’, on the Okanagan Lake was involved in a collision with another personal watercraft. The operator of the other watercraft, a man, sustained serious injuries in the collision.
Emergency Health Services transported the man to a hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced deceased in the evening on the same day.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
