Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in New Westminster where one woman sustained serious injuries.

Information provided by the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) states that at about 6:45 p.m. on July 1, 2024, an off-duty member of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit driving a black Nissan Armada was involved in a collision with a female pedestrian at the intersection of E Columbia and Braid streets in New Westminster.

The pedestrian sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified of the incident on July 7, 2024 when NWPD officers became aware that the woman’s injuries may meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act, and reported the incident to the IIO. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the collision and the injured woman’s condition.
