IIO Is Seeking Witnesses to a Police-Involved Shooting Incident in Vancouver (2024-287)

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that shortly after 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a call about a theft from a business on the 200-block of Robson Street.
After arriving, police located two people suffering from serious injuries nearby and a man, the affected person, reportedly carrying a weapon.
There was an interaction between officers and the affected person, and he suffered a gunshot-related injury.
First aid was provided but the affected person was later pronounced dead.
The IIO was notified of the incident the same day and has commenced an investigation.
Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm what happened leading up to and during the incident and what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the man’s death.
